Quiet Repose
Safe in the cradle of the tree,
Sleeps the birdie that sings;
Safe in the rose’s pink curtained rooms,
Sleeps the elf that has wings.
Safe in the ground the acorn is,
Which sometime will be a tree;
Safe, all tucked in bed I am,
While Christ is watching o’er me.
So everything is safe, in the care
of Him that died,
So many the time that man has sinned;
Christ, the Lord has sighed.
I write these verses in here to keep them safe. They are copied with literal exactness from the slip of paper on which Sibyl wrote them when she was 7 years old. The title is her own and the language her own.
